A strong letter of Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky against learning or college academic institutions was published this morning.

In the relatively long letter Hgr"ch writes: "Concerning the rumor in my name that I permitted or allowed students from Bais Yaakov to transfer to institutions where one learns academic studies, and receive academic degrees, never took place, and is a lie".

The letter says: "and one has received from Maamo"r Zll"h (the Kehilas Yaakov-the Steipler zt"l) and Gedolei Hador of blessed memory that one should not learn in academic institutions, colleges or institutions affiliated with them in any way, and hearing the advice of the elders is guaranteed not to fail, and will see nachas from all his descendants."

Signed, 3 Menachem Av תשע"ג, Chaim Kanievsky.

Hgr"ch's letter comes in the wake of advertisements for decent living, offering degrees in professional studies, along with women's livelihood crisis which caused them to seek new avenues - some of which require degrees and academic studies.

Meanwhile, a conference on the topic will be held for seminary students at the Heichalei Malchus halls in Bnei Brak.
