History in Yeshiva world • Chabad yeshivas adopt core curriculum and matriculation

Real history in the yeshiva world: while haredi parties grit their teeth against cuts in Haredi educational institutions, it seems that there are groups who are trying to solve the problem in a creative way.

Chabad is in question.

According to the directing and guiding of Hagaon Rabbi Menachem Mendel Golochovsky - Dayan in the Chabad Beis Din - who signed the agreement with the Ministry of Education after consultation held by Chabad rabbis, directors of the Chabad yeshiva ketanas received confirmation to include the core curriculum and conduct matriculation exams for their students.

The matriculation subjects include, inter alia, Yiddish, Nach and the Talmud. Supervisor of the curriculum and accompanying the move by the Ministry of Education is Benaiahu Tawyla.

The significance of the step is that instead of 'unique culture' institutions which receive funding of 60-70 percent, Chabad yeshiva ketana will be classified as 'high school' and will receive a hundred percent funding.

Chabad's yeshiva ketana include the yeshivas of Tomchei Temimim network in Lod, Kiryat Gat, Elad, Bnei Brak, Beitar, Or Yehuda, Rehovot, Safed, Nazareth, Beersheba, Netanya, Krayot, and Yeshiva Toras Emes in Jerusalem.

Hgrm"m Gollachovsky is Rav of the Chabad community in Rehovot, Dayan in the Beis Din of Chabad rabbis and member of the Tribunal of the Beis Din.

Various factors in Chabad tried to pressure so that the news will not be published, claiming that the mere publication will harm the move. Indeed, it is expected that the move will lead to harsh criticism from other circles in haredi Judaism.

Some claimed that in the past the core curriculum subjects have been learned in the Chabad network. But there is no doubt that it was never an official move of institutions in the Hasidism, and with official backing of the rabbis.

Ministry of Education panicked when it became clear that news of the agreement reached Behadrey Haredim, but refused to comment.
