Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided to appoint Ron Dermer as Israeli Ambassador to Washington.

During the last four years Dermer was senior advisor to Prime Minister Netanyahu. Previously (2005-2008) he served as a economical delegate of the Israeli Embassy in the U.S.

Dermer, 42, is married with five children, he graduated from the School of Business at the Wharton University of Pennsylvania, and has a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University.

In 2004, Dermer published together with Natan Sharansky the book 'The Case for Democracy: the power of freedom to overcome tyranny and terror. The book which became a best - seller was translated into ten languages.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: "Ron Dermer has all the features required to successfully fulfill this important role. From my familiarity with him for many years I know that Ron faithfully represented the state of Israel in the capital of our largest ally the USA. On behalf of the citizens of Israel I wish him much success. "

Intelligence and Strategy Minister Yuval Steinitz welcomed the appointment and said that "It is hard to think of a more suitable and more talented candidate than Ron Dermer as Israeli Ambassador to the United States. I am convinced that he will contribute to strengthening diplomatic, strategic and economic relations between the U.S. and Israeli and encourage cooperation in critical issues such as curbing Iran's nuclear program."
