It was supposed to be a nice event at an interesting timing - the eve of the ordination. The event, held at Kibbutz Ginosar, only invited rabbis, and the center panel was attended by key role candidates for the next chief rabbi of Israel.

Those conspicuously absent: Rabbi Razon Arussi and Rabbi Zion Boaron. On stage: Rabbi Yehuda Deri, Rabbi David Lau, Rabbi Yaakov Shapira, Rabbi Avraham Yosef, Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu and Rabbi Igra.

Each of the rabbis had the right to speak for a few minutes, each reflecting speech - more or less the motto with which he came in the elections. Rabbi Yehuda Deri, for example, told of the city of Be'er Sheva where he serves as rabbi of years, that the largest mall in the Middle East, the Grand Canyon, closed on Shabbos, as well as 12 more shopping malls, "and everything is done peacefully." Various rabbis have actually tried to prove that not only among Zohar is the Rabbinate 'friendly' ... This as antithesis of what Rabbi Stav said.

The first hint of what was to happen, came from the words of Hgr"d Lau, "Before a Rabbi runs as candidate, he should first be a neighborhood or city Rabbi, or someone who knows to lead a large community or a large group, not just run because of..." he said, and hinted directly back to Yeshiva Merkaz HaRav Hagaon Shapiro.

But the sequel was much more heated, and the event was prematurely terminated: This was when Rabbi Stav gave a speech in which he told that tens of thousands of couples prefer to get married abroad. "11 thousand only," shouted Rabbi Avraham Yosef, adding that "only a third of them are orthodox, some prefer overseas in the first place.

"I did not disturb you, do not bother me," cried Rabbi Stav toward Rabbi Yehuda Deri, who spoke with Rabbi Avraham Yosef when both are angry with the 'false' data", they say.

Then the crowd began to rage and shout, it is important to mention that this is all made up of the audience of city rabbis and important dayanim. "What you say is a lie", attacked Rabbi Stav, who was on stage. "Maran was right, everything he said is true enough," shouted others.

Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu was the first to pluck up the courage, and just left the room. After his departure more and more rabbis left, the auditorium remained almost empty, and the event was prematurely dissolved...
