Chief Rabbinate saga: the settlement offer which has been rolling about for some time, and which was proposed on behalf of members and associates of Hgr"s Amar towards the house on Hakablan street, offers to appoint Hgr"s Amar to a new role of President of the Supreme Rabbinical Court, a position created for him, in coordination with the Ministry of Justice, and in return, Hgr"tz Boaron will remove his candidacy for role of Chief Sephardi Rabbi.

The proposal began even before Hgr"s Amar traveled to Spain, and definitely received a positive attitude. But after the disappearance of Hgr"s, differences arose between the parties and reduced the chances of the proposal, while associates of Harav Ovadia argue that in any case Hgr"tz Boaron will remove candidacy finally, due to the long-standing friendship with Shas chairman Aryeh Deri, as the rabbi even defended when he was convicted.

It should be noted that Deri was with Harav Boaron and did not manage to convince him to remove his candidacy. Some say that in the conversation Deri also reminded him that he helped him get the role in the Great Beis Din.

Some of the most ardent supporters of Hagr"s Amar raised a white flag and are currently not involved in supporting Harav Boaron. Therefore, Harav Ashkenazi - Rabbi of Kfar Chabad, did not sign the candidacy of Hgr"tz Boaron.

Associates of Hgr"s Amar see things as follows: For them there is no doubt that in Harav Ovadia's house they will have to accept the settlement offer, since in every other constellation, Shas votes will split between Hgr"tz Boaron and one of Harav Ovadia's sons, and Harav Shmuel Eliyahu - who is a red flag at Harav Ovadia - will gain a no man's land.

The two sides are also exchanging accusations: While at Harav Ovadia they claim that publication of the photographs of Harav Ovadia at his hospital bed are disrespect, Harav Amar's men complain that a copy of a personal letter which Harav Ovadia wrote to Harav Amar, and which was placed in his personal drawer, was published.

From the campaign headquarters of Hgr"tz Boaron a statement was released: "Following the disgraceful campaign of threats on Israel's senior rabbi, we are witnessing today baseless reports according to which allegedly Harav Boaron will withdraw from the race for some kind of deal. Unfortunately for interested parties, Rabbi Boaron will run to victory and lead to the Rabbinate which will unite the people and will work for the general public, both women and men, secular and religious alike."
