The Knesset approved today (Wednesday) in a preliminary reading the Governance Law of Yesh Atid, which raises the threshold and prevents a no-confidence every Monday and Thursday.
By law, the threshold will climb to 4%, so that parties such as the Arab parties and Kadima are endangered, as well as Meretz and the Movement.
The proposal, initiated by MK Ronen Hoffman had 60 supporters and 44 opponents.
More in the Law: the government table will include no more than 18 ministers and four deputies, when there is no role of a Minister without portfolio. In addition, in order to submit a no-confidence the signatures of at least 65 Knesset members will be required.
Labor MK Yitzchak Herzog attacked the bill: "This bill creates a dangerous precedent in the plenary. You are talking about a law that changes the world order of the delicate relationships between coalition and opposition. The world is round and democracy conceals a lot of surprises. What you send - will fall on your head one day, and then when you're in the opposition you will say 'Why didn't I think I'm castrating my ability to file no-confidence motions. As the opposition we'll fight against the law with every tool at our disposal. The dignity of the Knesset and democracy is precious to all of us, and the prices of these exercises are most terrible."
