The woman did not give up and immediately turned to the Shomrim organization in Crown Heights. The Shomrim resorted to sophisticated feints. Several hours after the theft, they sent a text message to the stolen device, allegedly sent by another tenant.

The announcement read: "Hello, I'd be happy to transfer the $ 850 for my rent this month. Where can I find you?"

The thieves, innocently believed that more money can flow into their pockets, without any effort or risk, responded in their message: "I'm busy right now but I'll send one of my employees." After correspondents they agreed on the meeting place for transferring the money and at that stage the Shomrim contacted the police. One of the Shomrim waiting at the intersection for the 'employee', and the police were waiting for him in ambush.
