With the summer at peak, Shabbos demonstrations of the Eideh Charedi are gaining momentum: On Shabbos, many residents from Meah Shearim and the region came to demonstrate against the desecration of Shabbos in Jerusalem.
The protesters, who situated at the corner of Hanevim and Devorah Haneviah Streets, near the neighborhood, stood on the edge of the road and shouted 'Shabbos', especially against vehicles driving on the street and against the opening of the Karta parking lot located near the Old City.
According to the protesters, police used violence this week against some of the protesters, including violence exerted against Yechezkel Pearl, who supervises demonstration on behalf of the Eideh Charedi, and Ahrele Kraus, son of Yoilish Kraus.
Kraus's son lost balance and some of his friends accompanied him home. After Shabbos, he was taken for medical tests at Terem. According to some of the protesters, an American boy, who violence was used against him, required medical treatment in Bikur Cholim.
"The demonstration passed quietly on the orthodox side yet violence was activated against demonstrators," one protester described a conversation with B'Chadrei Charedim. "One of the police officers said to some of the protesters: "You'll receive blows today."
The Eideh Charedi does not intend to ignore the extreme violence, mostly due to that operated by police officers to the Commissioner on their behalf. "This is insolence and crossed a red line," said a source in the committee. "I did not go over this injury in silence and will act accordingly."
According to them, this week they will convene an urgent meeting on the subject.
At the same time, the ultra-Orthodox Jerusalem municipality representatives claim victory, after they claim that during last Shabbos most shops in the station complex, remained closed. "More hidden from view," said Deputy Mayor Yitzchak Pindrus, who arrived along with his colleague Yosef Deitch to the compound area during Shabbos. "There is much more work on the subject, but we can already congratulate on the success."
He noted that a number of stores that remain open will be addressed at the municipality.
