Coke in Baghdad, shut due to demonstration - and opened again
עוזי ברק

A group of Haredim, Bnei Brak residents, went before Shabbos to demonstrate against the opening of the kiosk, Coke in Baghdad, located on Jabotinsky Street in Ramat Gan on Shabbos. This comes following the recent posters which have been distributed throughout the city, and community residents called to demonstrate.

The kiosk owner, who feared riots, closed the doors during the demonstration, causing demonstrators who came to hold Kabalas Shabbos at the scene, to think that he was going to withdraw from opening the store on Shabbos.

Therefore, the mass prayer was held near a different kiosk which opens on Shabbos, and is located a short distance away.

But according to bystanders, who passed 'Coke in Baghdad' at around 22:00, the owner returned and opened the doors.

Consequently, the activists leading the struggle against the kiosk, are considering arriving next Shabbos three times - evening, morning and afternoon.

According to some participants, the protest passed without fuss, despite attempts by marginal youth to block the road.
