Arab burglar was surprised: "I thought you had a wedding"

Telzestone settlement – Kiryat Yearim, is recently facing a wave of thefts.

The settlement is situated close to Jerusalem and recently suffered a wave of thefts of gangs from Arab residents of villages in the Jerusalem area.

It seems that this time the thieves are operating skillfully. They perform Covert Surveillance and when they notice the commotion around one of the houses, they conclude that its inhabitants are facing some sort of celebration. Later they come to that house and break into it.

The neighborhood specifically suffering from the phenomenon is Achuzat Yearim which is relatively isolated from the rest of the neighborhoods. Last Pesach, the thieves broke into four apartments in one building, after they were certain in advance that most, are empty, and stole jewelry, silverware and other valuables worth thousands of dollars. Since then, the council sends its security during every Yom Tov period, where there is a high risk of theft, to make the neighborhood tours.

To deal with the last wave of thefts there are residents who hire a sitter or yeshiva student to stay at their home during the absence.

Last week, one of the residents married off his son to a girl from Bnei Brak. The wedding took place in the center of the country, and the family from Telzestone, hired two adult daughters to guard the house.

During the evening, the phone rang. On the other side of the line a heavy Arab accent was heard. "Hello, who is this?" asked the house sitter. The man was surprised: "What? No wedding tonight, why are you home?"

According to the interpretation of the owner, it is probably a gang member who examined the area before, towards making theft.

Family member with whom we talked offers a solution, security cameras, "the council does here the most and there is security driving around at night. But the security cannot know where a burglary is. We need security cameras so that security officers can see where there is complicity and launch a security to the surface.

"The Council will do this in principle, but the area is large, Rabbi Aryeh Schulman argues that the layout of cameras is a problem when it comes to Shabbos and he is the one preventing their placement," they explain.
