A group of Long Beach Yeshiva in New York, who were on their way to the Catskills Mountains for Shabbos, were delayed in traffic, and found itself staying in Skvira for Shabbos
An instructor at the yeshiva said: "Every Friday we send the yeshiva boys home, since during Shabbos goyim come here to the beaches the pritzus is great. This Shabbos because the parents are already in summer houses in Catskills, the yeshiva organized a bus to the Catskills. Were supposed to leave at 12 but the bus was three hours late.
"We asked the manager what to do, and the manager said we could leave, since the shkia is eight thirty, so we had five hours left. We went off, but we got stuck in an endless traffic jam which was probably caused by car accidents. When time was running out and we saw we would not make it on time, we called the parents informing we will not get there. The problem was we did not have kosher food and had nowhere to buy it."
The solution was found by one of the parents who contacted the hospitality of Kiryat Skvira, close to the location of the group and those agreed to host the yeshiva.
"We arrived 45 minutes before shkia. The hospitality manager already took care of lodging and accommodation for Shabbos meals," he says. "The boys were sent in small groups to residents who hosted them happily for Shabbos meals and Shalosh Seudos we ate together at the home of one of the residents. The Rebbe was not in town this Shabbos, but we will never forget this Shabbos," said the instructor, and added, "we had already planned to stay on Shabbos at some gentile motel and eat bread and water, but it was all for the best because some of the boys had never visited Hasidic homes, there is no doubt that they will never forget this Shabbos."
