First time since the end of Operation Pillar of Cloud in Tammuz last year, last night (Monday), a large amount of rockets were fired from Gaza into southern Israel.

Tonight at around 23:42 there was a red alert in Netivot, Rahat and Mishmar Hanegev. Later an alarm sounded in the western Negev Regional Council, Bnei Shimon, Sha'ar Hanegev, Hof Ashkelon, Merhavim, Lachish, and the town of Netivot. In Rahat and Lehavim Regional Council the alarm was sounded too.

According to the report there were six rocket in a few barrages. Two were shot at Bnei Shimon and fell in open areas. Four were fired at Ashkelon, and two of them were intercepted by the Iron Dome system over the skies of the city. Two others exploded in open areas.

The IDF spokesman - sub - Gen. Yoav (Poly) Mordechai, wrote on his Facebook that "once again, an emergency meeting at about midnight. After 40 days of silence, with no firing from Gaza into Israeli territory, rockets were fired tonight which probably fell in open areas. A good and peaceful night for the residents of the south. "

The chiefs and security installations of the security forces in Gaza were evacuated for fear of an Israeli attack. According to Palestinian reports, there is considerable movement of aircraft over the skies of Gaza.

A security official estimated that the barrages of rockets at Israeli territory tonight were probably carried out by Islamic Jihad, in response to a dispute which arose between the leaders of the organization and Hamas, due to the death of an Islamic Jihad detainee.

Jundia Ra'ad, one of the commanders of Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of Islamic Jihad in Gaza, was shot today (Sunday) in the afternoon by officers from the Hamas movement, he was mortally wounded and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Consequently, the Islamic Jihad in Gaza announced that it cuts its ties with Hamas temporarily following the death of one of the military leaders, "who was killed in a violent clash with Hamas police," as reported by an official of the organization.

Hamas claims that he committed suicide, while jihadists claim he was liquidated.

Last week on Wednesday, a rocket was fired on Israel and exploded in the Gaza Strip. Recently the alarm system was activated several times in the Gaza periphery and Hof Ashkelon, following the experiments conducted by organizations in the Gaza Strip with short and long term rockets.
