Hgr"s Amar: Jokers spread Jerusalem Rabbinate issue

After rumors about a possible deal of Hgr"s Amar in the Jerusalem Rabbinate elections, led to the clarification of Harav Ovadia Yosef that he will not support such a move, acquaintances of the Rishon Letzion hurry to minimize the damage, which the Rav Amar Act affair caused them.

They first had to agree to the request of Harav Ovadia, according to which Hgr"s Amar has to come and beg the forgiveness of the President of the Council of Sages for the grief caused him nu the whole affair, due to errors caused by the acquaintances of the Rishon Letzion. After Mincha in the synagogue on 45 Hakablan Street, the meeting between the rabbis was held - and the matter had been settled.

Immediately afterwards, Hgr"s Amar wrote a letter, in which he makes clear that he does not intend to run for the Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem. His letter implied, not explicitly, that he understands the anger of members of the home of Harav Ovadia about the rumors, that is after a family member, Hagaon R' Yitzhak Yosef, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Chazon Ovadia has been a candidate for the position for years.

Likewise, the Rav also clarifies in his letter that rumors circulated about the possibility that he will open a kashrus which will compete with BADATZ Beit Yosef, are incorrect. He does not address this explicitly, but stresses that he intends to study Torah and teach it.

And so he wrote:

"I heard voices around me about Jerusalem Rabbinate. I hereby inform and announce that I did not oppose the law regarding the continuation of the Chief Rabbinate only because of matters concerning the enormous responsibility of the Beis Din in general and particular, and as my friends and rabbis at each site and at their head Maran Hagaon R' Ovadia Yosef shlita, argued against me.

And because I promised not to talk, I was as a deaf and dumb who does not hear or open his mouth.

And though the sons of Korach did not die, and ba'alei machlokes exist "even in our time", I kept quiet and silent.

And now, the jokers have been seen in the country, and their ways are varied, and there are those who spread the issue of the Chief Rabbinate of Yerushalayim.

And I hereby inform in public that I do not think about it at all, and Maran Harav Yosef shlita has designated it for his son Hagr"y Yosef shlita, and I support and supported it wholeheartedly, not I do not think about this issue even in thought, and have rejected very important requests on the matter.

My only aim is to learn Torah and teach lessons and drashot in our Holy Land and everywhere, and to continue to answer queries about Hashem's word which is halacha in an organized and prepared manner."
