Blood covenant: The baby who choked during his seudas bris, died at the hospital. A week and a day ago, an unfortunate incident occurred after a bris held in Holon synagogue. The circumcised eight days old baby, lost consciousness during the seudas bris.
Volunteer paramedics of the Hatzalah branch of Holon performed CPR and he was taken to Wolfson Hospital when his condition was critical. It is estimated the baby chocked during an attempt to breastfeed him while crying. The baby was admitted to the trauma unit in hospital.
"When I arrived at the synagogue the toddler was blue, without a pulse and not breathing," says Yehuda Mizrahi, head of the Hatzalah branch in Bat Yam to B'Chadrei Charedim. "I immediately started resuscitation and within minutes I was joined by other paramedics. After about 20 minutes the ambulance arrived, which took the baby in critical condition to the hospital, where Baruch Hashem his pulse returned, but remained in serious condition."
He said, "It happened about an hour after the bris during a seuda held at the place, the baby was choking during eating, and apparently regardless of the bris."
Avraham Oliver, a family friend who participated in the bris, said in a conversation with B'Chadrei Charedim that after the bris the baby was delivered to his mother who nursed him and put him to sleep in the cart. After a while, during the seuda, she came over and noticed something was wrong. One of the guests called MDA and performed CPR by telephonic training, until the arrival of Hatzalah volunteers, who continued the resuscitation with appropriate medical equipment. "
As mentioned, the baby was born to an orthodox family from Bat Yam, died in hospital this morning, much to his family's chagrin.
Following inquiries and questions the Chief Rabbinate of Israel asks to clarify the details of the case from their perspective. Immediately after the initial reporting of the incident, Director of Alliances Chief Rabbinate was in constant contact with the mohel who conducted the circumcision, and the doctors who treated the baby at the Wolfson hospital and doctors senior members of the joint alliances ordination Committee and the Ministry of Health. Initial opinion of the doctors who treated the baby has been that the baby's complication condition is not the result of circumcision but a medical condition. Further treatment of the baby verified this determination.
An investigation conducted revealed that the mohel who performed the bris is a veteran certified mohel. The mohel performed according to the procedure and checked the baby after the bris. Just half an hour after the circumcision began to appear signs of medical complications which occurred in the baby, regardless of the bris itself. The mohel accompanied the family on their way to the hospital.
