Dubious record • Boro Park dirtiest in New York

Assemblyman of New York, Dov Hikind, requires of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, to send him the details of the survey done by the Sanitation Department of New York, used to determine the neighborhood of Boro Park is the dirtiest neighborhood in the city.

Hikind said that inspectors of the sanitation department decided to "mark" the haredi neighborhood and conducted a test which determined that Boro Park is dirty from the city quarters, and therefore have tightened the enforcement of sanitation laws and increase fines.

"There is a situation where the inspectors of the sanitation department raid the streets at two or three in the morning and give $ 100 fines to anyone who has not cleaned up the area in front of his house or other laws.

"It's just absurd, imagine that you go to sleep and somebody passed by your house and threw shells or dirt at the entrance to your home, suddenly you wake up in the morning and rush to clean up the area under your responsibility, then you find a fine prescribed for you at 3 am," said Hikind and continued, "I get complaints of poor people, large families who barely make ends meet, this amount is significant, especially when given at 3 am. I demanded from the Sanitation to give me the results of the survey conducted in the neighborhood, and they refuse. "

"I believe that the streets on the border the neighborhood like 8th Avenue, which do not belong to Boro Park, were really dirty. I know far more dirty neighborhoods than Boro Park," said Hikind and addressed Mayor Michael Bloomberg to immediately receive the criteria according to which the survey was conducted

Hikind also requires that the ridiculous campaign of fines which Ministry of Sanitation is running in Boro Park.
