Culture Minister Limor Livnat, a member of the Perry Committee, called this morning (Tuesday), during a committee meeting for Advancement of Women to MK's – to require representatives of their parties in the Perry Committee, that the equality of women in the IDF will be determined by law.

The comments were made during a discussion on the gender implications of equality of burden.

According to the new law, the IDF will be required to report the status of women in the army with recruiting haredim. "We want to recruit the Haredim to the army and make a revolution, it is very important to the IDF and Israeli society. To achieve this, we must allow haredim who enlist, to keep their way of life, without compromising the status and rights of women in the IDF, "said Livnat.

More Livnat said: "joint service command does not yet exist, although two years have passed since the Chief of Staff ordered to write it. This is problematic, because the command is very important. The army is an essentially masculine organization and problems we are facing in the army reflect problems within the civil, such as exclusion or discrimination of women.

"The defense minister said at the Perry Committee amazing things about women's service in the army, they are a central and important part in a variety of roles, from warriors and support combat. All of us remember times when we fought the opening of roles for women."

"My opinion", emphasized Minister Livnat, "is that we must find a delicate balance which means no justice will win out. It means you cannot say to Haredim you will be in ordinary units and we don’t care about anything. We should allow them to maintain their lifestyle in their unit. If they have an event in their unit, there is no need to bring women to sing there, but if they are participating in the event with other units, so soldiers will sing there, and allow those who don't have to not to participate."

Rachel Tevet-Wiesel, Chief Advisor on Women's Issues: "Nezach Yehuda is a homogeneous unit. A female officer had to check the kitchen there for another Haredi battalion expansion. An officer told her under personal initiative that women do not enter the base. It came to our attention and we have engaged the battalion immediately that all officers be guided that the base not closed to women.

"They have no Md"sit, but computing officers will enter. This is complex. The principle is that one of the discussions, from a systemic discussion to debate whether to open another Orthodox profession; Chief Counsel for women will always be involved. Everything about Orthodox service, always I or my representative or Deputy and Chief Education Officer will be involved. "

MK Merav Michaeli said to Chief Counsel: "We are attacking you at a place you are using us as your back. Most important thing is that at the IDF will be implemented sorting by various skills and service."

Committee chairman MK Dr. Aliza Lavie: "The Minister Livnat needs help from the forum sitting here at the table. The issue must be part of the law and that is in our hands. It must also contain a mandatory clause reporting law in the Knesset Committee on the Status of women in the army in general and recruiting haredi soldiers and commanders in particular. The Commission requires to order that saving right of women to equality legislation and will be anchored in a crowed and not as a government decision.

"The Committee appeals to the defense minister and chief of staff to speed up the preparation of the joint service command. We must create the right balance in order to maintain the rights of all minorities in the military. The IDF also can meet this challenge, with all his weight and importance - not like the army faced with challenges and struggles. Haredim will feel welcome, secularists have to feel safe, and the IDF will continue to promote conditions for success and equal opportunities for women. "
