Hour of terror passed on Beer Sheva residents: vendetta of a disgruntled local resident, who didn’t receive a mortgage upon request, ended with terrifying massacre, killing four people - besides the killer himself, who committed suicide at the end of the event.
At about 13:00 entered a Jewish resident of the city into a branch of Bank Hapoalim Mortgage Bank, located on Sderot Neve Ze'ev Jabotinsky in the city, and opened fire in all directions.
Four people - three men and a woman, were injured by the gunfire and killed which probably includes the branch manager, guard and clerk - pregnant.
Among the victims was a man of about 30 evacuated in fair condition to Soroka Hospital and was put taken for surgery as his condition is defined as moderate to severe, with gunshot wounds to the stomach and chest, according to Professor John Pfizer, deputy director of Soroka Hospital. In addition, there are three victims of anxiety.
After an hour the man barricaded himself in the building with a hostage in his hands, security forces broke inside. Attacker released the seriously injured hostage, shot himself and died; medical forces entered the scene to perform CPR. Further, SWAT forces searching the building opened fire purification, and the event ended.
A witness on the scene spoke of the fear: "I recited Shema Yisrael," he said, adding that "the robber performed and confirmed. A person lying on me saved me, but he was killed." He said, "No one asked for money, they just came in and started shooting."
Large forces of the Negev District Police and SWAT are on the scene. Minister of Public Security, Police Commissioner and Head of Operations are on their way to the scene.
Zaka member Moshe Tabibian, said: "We received a report at ZAKA on massive fire at Bank Hapoalim in the city center, I and other ZAKA volunteers and staff within minutes we reached the place, we treated 4 casualties who were dead at the entrance to the bank, they were evacuated by MDA ambulances, in addition to a number of wounded who were evacuated to the hospital. Additionally we know that there are other hostages inside the bank, we wait with enhanced teams till we can enter and treat the wounded inside the bank."
Oren Aharoni Hatzalah medic, said: "When I reached the scene shots were still heard, I and other paramedics, assisted by a Hatzalah physician, provided primary care to the seriously injured and a number of anxiety victims, large police forces were in place to examine the circumstances, unfortunately death was determined on a woman and four men as a result of the shooting.
Negev region police reported following the event: "At 13 o'clock we received a few messages of shots being fired from Bank Hapoalim branch in Beer Sheva Johanna Jabotinsky. Large police forces under the command of Commander Tomer went out to the scene. From the scene were evacuated four dead and 3 wounded. Negotiating team was called. Suspect shot himself (personal weapons) and released the hostage. Within a few minutes of medical treatment we declared his death; it is a man in his 40s and apparently a resident. Another man evacuated from the scene is now in fair condition under police escort since he is a suspect until he can be questioned. Background - an initial investigation revealed that the incident was apparently a criminal background and not nationalist."
Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino said outside the bank branch in Beer Sheva: "From what we understand the event is not for nationalistic reasons. We'll continue to explore. The suspect who apparently committed suicide at the end of the shooting is under our detection a Jew, apparently a resident of Beer Sheva, "Danino said." We currently do not have any other suspects, "stressed the Commissioner.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed at the Likud faction meeting the robbery incident in Beer Sheva and said that this is a great tragedy. "I spoke with the mayor of Beer Sheva Rubik Danilowitz, and I also received regular updates from the Minister of Public Security Yitzhak Ahranowitz. This incident is very serious; I do not remember such an event - and certainly not in recent years. This is not a common phenomenon in Israel. It is prohibited that such an attack repeats itself. It will not be repeated. On this occasion I would like to send condolences to the families of the dead and of course best wishes and a speedy recovery to the injured, "added the Prime Minister.
