Hesder Yeshivos - for haredim too: Tomorrow (Monday) the Peri committee for equality of burden will convene for one of the last meetings before publishing the draft of the law. Ma'ariv newspaper reported that one of the ideas being formulated is setting up Hesder yeshivos for the Haredi public too.
Today the course is for the national-religious public, in which boys serve half the time and study in the other half, and now they want to expand it to haredi yeshiva students too.
More of the Committee's ideas: a transition period which would last three or four years. During the period the yeshivos will be required to meet recruitment quotas. Those who continue to study will receive a permanent exemption at the age of 22, and from then on funding given to him by the state will be canceled. The exemption will allow him to enter the labor market. Economic sanctions will be provided at the institutions' level - those that do not meet recruitment quotas.
After the transition period all yeshiva students will be required to enlist, except for "masmidim" students – about 1,800 per year. Other students can get the latest deferment until the age of 21, and then will be required to enlist.
