This morning the funeral of Rabbi Yehoshua Horowitz, the Rebbe of Dzikov U.S. was held, after passing away from a terrible illness.
The Rebbe lived in Borough Park and the funeral left his Beit Midrash and from there to Newark airport to Israel.
In Israel the funeral left the Vizhnitz Beit Midrash on Shlomo Hamelech Street, passing by the large Beit Midrash in Kiryat Vizhnitz and from there to the cemetery in Bnei Brak, where he was laid to rest alongside the Rebbes of Vizhnitz,
The funeral was participated by the Rebbes of Vizhnitz as well as the Kratshnifer Rebbe, who his brother in law Rabbi Horowitz is the son of the Rebbe who passed away.
During the funeral at Vizhnitz, the Vizhnitzer Rebbe brought up memories before the Kratshnifer Rebbe of the personality of the deceased and said that he was considered a member of the family by the Imrei Chaim zt"l.
This is due to the fact that his father the Rebbe Rabbi Meir hy"d, perished in the holocaust. Father of Reb Meir, Hrh"z Rabbi Alter Yehoshua zt"l was the son in law of the Ahvas Yisrael of Vizhnitz zt"l. The sons of Reb Meir hy"d who immigrated to Israel and the Imrei Chaim zt"l adopted them as children, brought them up and educated them until their marriage.
"In Vizhnitz it is customary that Rebbes dedicate their Divrei Torah on Shabbos Aliyah to the Torah of their descendants, to the joy at the entrance, on the Holy Fathers who descend from heaven to attend the celebration and spiritual preparation to do before. This is what the Imrei Chaim zt"l also did before the marriage of the Dzikov Rebbe."
He also said that during the visits of the Imrei Chaim on every last day of Pesach, in the home of his grandchildren, a practice which he persisted for many years, he would also go to the home of the Rebbe of Dzikov.
"Surprisingly," he concluded, "the Rebbe passed away on 2nd Sivan, the day of the Hilula of the Ahvas Yisrael zt"l.
"Another cousin of the Horowitz family, who was also called Yehoshua and served as head of institutions of Dzikov in Jerusalem, passed away last year, but he passed away on the hillula of the Imrei Chaim on 9th Nissan. It is surprising that descendants of Dzikov and Vizhnitz who grew up at Imrei Chaim passed away on the hillula of Vizhnitzer Rebbes."
The Rebbe will be replaced by his three sons who live in Borough Park, Williamsburg and Monsey. Each one of them will lead their own chassidus in their places of residence.
