New decrees in Hasidic yeshivas in New York.
Parents of students enrolled at Bnei Zion of the Bobov chassidus in the neighborhood of Borough Park, were amazed this weekend to receive a letter from the management of the institution, that the yeshiva students are prohibited from wearing fashionable glasses.
According to the announcement, just ordinary and traditional glasses are approved.
The New York Times reported on the phenomenon, said a local optical shop reported 30 boys who came to replace the eyeglass frames.
Another optical shop in the center of Borough Park, reported the yeshiva management came to the store managers and explained to business owners the permitted frames.
Not only Bobov, also additional yeshivas sent letters to parents, which prohibited fashionable glasses.
It was after one Hasidic yeshiva in the neighborhood of Borough Park the students recently began to wear big and fashionable glasses. The phenomenon spread until the yeshiva boards decided to stop the phenomenon.
Not just for boys: girls studying in Beis Yaakov and Hasidic schools recently received messages which forbid their daughters to wear fashionable shoes, the only shoes permitted are black or navy blue.
One mother daughters studying in the Beis Sarah School in Borough Park said that recently became fashionable shoes in a bright rainbow of colors. Therefore, school administrators decided to ban the fashionable shoes starting from first grade.
