Complaint at police against Walla: "incited against haredim"

Yaakov Lavi, a haredi social activist filed a police complaint today (Monday), at the Beit Shemesh police against Eviatar Amitai, creator of a network game in which the player's character is the Minister of Finance Yair Lapid and the objective is to "kill" the haredi MK's by 'eating' their money.

A complaint was also filed against the 'Walla News!' site which called on its official Facebook page "to eliminate haredim."

Harsh criticism was directed against Amitai recently on the grounds that by creating the game and uploading it to the Internet he is causing incitement against the haredi public in Israel, which is liable to lead to physical harm.

Yet Amitai refused to download the game and said: "It's funny."

A complaint was filed against the Walla site, too, at the police station. Yaakov Lavi, an activist of the 'Dossim' organization, a haredi internet advocacy project, explained that the site's Facebook posted a link to the news item covering the game with the caption: "Dear children, help Yair Lapid find the money and eliminate the haredim."

"If we got used to incitement accusing the Haredi sector of looting the public purse," said Lavi, "we will not let it move to the next step: allowing the blood of the haredim. We are witnessing the continuing journey to delegitimize and demonize the haredi public. A campaign whose results are expressed in violence directed against haredim whose only crime is their traditional Jewish appearance ".

"The fact that a media body feels comfortable to avoid a public apology following the publication of a game for preschool when the central message is: Kill Haredim and save the money, says like a thousand witnesses to the ease with which this call is perceived."

It should be noted that the complaint was filed despite the fact that Walla made it clear that this is a one-time lapse of a junior employee, which was treated quickly, and the necessary steps have been taken to prevent such a serious phenomenon in the future.
