Hgary"l: Do not go to college - even if the salary is multiplied by 5
משה גולדשטיין

College phenomenon, particularly among Orthodox women, was recently put on the public agenda in different contexts.

Recently Hgray"l Steinman was asked about an ultra-Orthodox woman who works in a certain place, and earns 23 shekels an hour, not far from the minimum wage. Her boss suggested that she begins to learn in order to university or college and get a degree, her salary will be multiplied by five - and she will get no less than NIS 120 per hour! Is she permitted to study, get a degree and increase the level of income?

Hgray"l replied a definitive answer: "Of course not! These places spoil."

Questioner persisted: "But there are colleges that are designed just for Haredim, and what is that problem with that?"
The Rosh Yeshiva rejected this argument outright sharply: "This is a step out ... start by deteriorating to secularism r"l ..."

Interesting point, Hgray"l was recently asked, if it is better to learn teaching that involves spirituality on one hand, but on the other hand, it is difficult to find a job in this field of work, or prefer engineering studies that the income they pose, is double or more, and the profession is in the market. "Is not it better to make an effort to study engineering?"

Hgray"l replied: "You have to look for work in spiritual areas, and not in professionals empty of spirituality. As for the obligation to make an effort the obligation to make an effort depends on the choice of the person and if he chooses spiritual life, his obligation to try is just that."
