Immanuel affair, sons' version: Slonim insisted to go to jail

The Immanuel affair may have been the primary topic of discussion at the Shiva of Hagaon R' Yaakov Yosef, on Shmuel Hanavi Street in Jerusalem. After the funeral during which his will was read out by the Kabbalist Rabbi Yaakov Ades, and according to which one should do not go to court to fight discrimination, the family raised memories of their father and clarified his view of the issue that tears the Haredi sector apart.

The most serious citation was voiced by the son, Amram Yosef: "One of the detainees of Emanuel moved elsewhere. Had a lot of trouble in life, and he sent a messenger to my father to ask forgiveness for degrading him. Father's response was: you do not have forgiveness in this world or the next world".

The son Yonatan Yosef said that until the last moment Hagr"y Yosef tried to prevent the breach in the Haredi Judaism, but ran up against a wall: "in the morning of the planned march of Slonim Hasidim to prison, father told me to go and withdraw the petition, to order Yoav Lalum to do so, so that arrests would not be carried out and no judgment. Father said to me: 'Go, talk with Aryeh Deri, so that he speaks with the other party and reach a compromise.

"But the other side responded in the negative and said, 'No, we're going to jail proudly, to sanctify G-d's name, it's a matter of principle.

"I say this and I am a witness, may heaven and earth testify," says the son, "Dad taught us not to lie, and Aryeh Deri can attest to that. '"

Yonatan Yosef also told: "The subject hurt father, it hurt him they do not accept Jewish girls to seminaries. And hurt him about Rav Elyashiv that there were principals of seminaries who said: 'Let them go to Rav Elyashiv that he should accept them to his seminary.' He was pained by a father who had his daughter not accepted."

discrimination - kosher"

About going to court, a measure which was banned Hagaon Yaakov Yosef zt"l by his will – the son says, "Father said if these people do not listen to rabbis, in the same Shulchan Aruch that says not to turn to courts, it says that whoever does not accept upon himself Torah law one is allowed to take him to court" .

The son says that the father did not accept the argument that non-acceptance of girls stems only from non-compliance: "Father was of the opinion that a lot of people have deteriorated spirituality because they did not receive proper education suited to them. If a girl was not suitable, father held not to accept her, we know what his legacy was. The problem is that avreichim came who studied with Father and he raised them and nurtured them and knew them personally, and were from his flower beds and came to be accepted to a school or seminary and they placed obstacles for them on purpose! Not because they were not G-d-fearing! The other side is also unclean from doing soul searching!

"The fact they left my father alone against the world, it was on purpose. I was witness to it."
