This morning (Thursday) there was a hearing at the High Court in the petition by Noar Kahalacha organization, represented and headed by Yoav Lalum. The petition was filed against the Ministry of Education and local authorities and dealt with discrimination against Sephardic girls.

During the hearing, the justices asked Lalum to withdraw the petition. The heads of the association accepted the judges' suggestion. The opinion of the judges, as expressed in a conversation with some representatives of the petitioners and some of the respondents, the court would find it difficult to handle such appeals as were filed.

"Here we really see a large forest, but it's difficult to treat," said Judge Uzi Fogelman, who thought that after the Ministry of Education introduced a norm of transparency in the data, in order to discuss the petition one should choose a specific case.

"These general arguments, is a sort of ping pong that the court has no hold on. We should address the specific things", claimed Judge Edna Arbel as well.

Attorney Lalum tried to claim that "This is a phenomenon. We are in the field and I know what parents are going through, they phone to tell me what they are going through. I'm not talking about parents that I share with them behind the scenes and help them. "

"We do not deny it. We only want to handle specific cases with specific examples, the specific places," responded Justice Arbel.

At the end of the hearing, the judges responded to the petitioners' proposal and delete the petition, while reserving the claims and the possibility of filing a separate petition in the future, one that will discuss each specific case of discrimination according to the case.

Yoav Lalum to Behadrey Haredim: "The withdrawal of the petition is purely out of legal considerations. Those who do not do – are not wrong." He said he would also continue to cooperate with all who fight the phenomenon, "that we all know exists."

"The Noar Kahalacha association will continue to operate with all the tools, and as the teaching of Maran Rabbi Yaakov Yosef zt"l up to eradicating the phenomenon. I encourage all parties not to think that we will surrender," says Lalum.
