Synagogue member prosecutes: They stole my place in the synagogue

Resident of Rishon Lezion revealed that the synagogue in which he prays - rented out his seat to another member, the member decided to sue the synagogue, as he said he felt humiliated when the entire congregation saw that he lacks a seat, reported in the local news.

The suit filed, for the amount of NIS 5,000, he recounts the details of the case: The synagogue 'Makor Chaim' located on Molcho Street in Rishon Lezion. According to the member, for years he used to sit in a fixed place in the synagogue, and paid thousands of shekels in return for four seats he rented, two in the men section and two in the women section.

Recently seating arrangements changed in the synagogue, and he was required to pay again for the seats, but this time only rented two places for the amount of NIS 1,400. He said the spiritual character of the synagogue recently changed which were not in his worldview, so he decided to pray in other synagogues in the city.

However, he never declared leaving the synagogue where he prayed many years, and sometimes even used to go back and pray and attend Torah classes held there.
On Shabbos Hagadol the prosecutor came to the synagogue, but revealed to his surprise that the seats were occupied by someone else. In addition, according to the prosecution, the small board where his name was etched on it, which was pasted on his seats – were removed, without being informed of it.

The hurt member decided not to stand for this, and last week filed a lawsuit against the synagogue for the distress caused to him. Prosecution of 5,000 shekels is being discussed these days in Rishon Lezion Magistrates Court.
