Red Alert was sounded this morning (Wednesday) in Eilat: Two rockets hit near residences around 9:00. Eilat police and security forces scoured the city and located two scenes of falls. Iron Dome did not intercept the rockets.

According to reports from civilians, one rocket exploded at a construction site and a second in an open area on the Israel – Jordan border. There were no injuries or damage.

Jordanian media reported that rockets landed in Jordan too, but the Israeli security system did not confirm it.

Following the shooting, Eilat Airport was closed to traffic - and opened later.

The extreme Salafi organization called "Shura al – Mojhidin Council" took responsibility this afternoon (Wednesday). According to the organization, the firing of rockets was in response to the IDF attack on demonstrators protesting the death of a Palestinian prisoner in jail. "

IDF spokesman issued an official announcement about Iron Dome: "The system failed to intercept rockets fired at Eilat a reason not yet ascertained. The system, however, did identify the launches and activated the alert system.

"The local authority was prepared ahead for rocket fire, as there was a notification long before that." He also said that there is a possibility of further shooting of rockets at the town.

Chief of Eilat district, Commander Ron Gertner, told reporters that the city is back to normal, and that teaching at schools and kindergartens are held regularly. "Israel Police's role is to maintain the safety of civilians and return to normal life. It is important that the public does not endanger itself and when sirens are heard, should enter protected spaces." Gertner called for local residents to keep the shelters open.

Defense guidelines during an alarm

Eilat Municipality issued the defense guidelines during an alarm:

When one hears a siren or an explosion one should complete the process of protection, depending on the time available to us and follow the following guidelines:

Inside a structure: go into a shelter room, shelter or interior safe room, depending on the time at our disposal and close doors and windows.

Outside: Go into a nearby building, according to the time at our disposal. If there is no nearby building or in the open, one has to lie on the ground and protect your head with your hands.

In a car: One should pull over, get out and enter a nearby building or shelter. If one can not get into a building or sheltering within the time period available - one should get out, lie on the ground and protect your head with your hands. If you can not get out, pull over and wait 10 minutes.

• If no other guidance was given - after 10 minutes one can get out from the sheltering.
• Stay away from any unidentified objects or rockets lying on the ground. In this case, one should keep curious people away and inform the police.
• One must continue listening to the instructions of the media.
