European rabbis: "Stop child abuse cover up" • view

The Moetzet in Europe convened: Council of European Rabbis convened its annual meeting in Paris yesterday. During a stormy session, which lasted several hours, the Moetzet dealt with a number of issues, including several incidents of abuse of children by teachers in Jewish schools throughout Europe.

The Moetzet decided to go out with a 'call" to all educational institutions, to stop concealing and covering up this kind of affairs and take care of these cases with professional help.

For that matter, it was decided to establish a committee which will include Rabbi Benjamin Jacobs - Chief Rabbi of the Netherlands, and Rabbi Yitzchak Rubin – one the most prominent rabbis in Manchester and chairman of the rabbinical counties of England. Committee will be in contact with educational institutions to help them in advice and guidance on these issues.



To the Moetzet important rabbis and elders of the continent came from all over Europe. Amongst them were the members of the Presidency: Rabbi Jeremiah Cohen - Rabbi of Paris who hosted the Moetzet; Rabbi Yisrael Yaakov Lichtenstein – Rabbi and Ab"d of KF London; Rabbi David Moshe Lieberman - Chief Rabbi of community Shomrei Hadas in Antwerp and one of the senior European rabbis, and Rabbi Gershon Mendel Garelik – Rabbi and Ab"d of Congregation Ohel Moshe, Milan.

Alongside them other members also participated in the Moetzet: Rabbi Jacobs, Hgri"r Rubin, Rabbi Yaakov David Shmawl, Dayan of Shomrei Hadas in Antwerp, Rabbi Moshe Tuvia Weisberger, Rabbi and Ab"d Adas Yeraim in Budapest, Hagaon Rabbi Baruch Oberlander, Rabbi and Ab"d Shas, Budapest, Rabbi Yitzchak Niyazov Sephardic rabbi of Vienna, and Rabbi David Abraham, prominent Dayan of the Sephardic community in London.
On the agenda was, amongst others, circumcision affair in Germany, returning and re-awakened after blog owner decided to go to court against Rabbi Yehuda Teichtel of Berlin, who held a bris for his son in the German capital recently. Rabbis called out that there is no country authority to intervene in circumcision and ordered the heads of the 'RCE' to negotiate with the authorities in any country on this issue.

During the meeting, briefed the RCE manager's rabbis, CEO Rabbi Menachem Margolin and Chief Rabbi Aryeh Goldberg, the organization's activities and events in the European communities.
To the meeting of the Moetzet also important rabbis in France were invited, including the great rabbis: Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Bamberger, the rabbi of Metz, Yechiel Brand, Rosh Kollel of Sessile, Abraham Pevzner, Lubavitch Rabbi in France, David Alfasi, Rabbi of Vietri, Meir Malka, Rabbi of Clichy, Michael Shmarla, Ab"d Strasbourg and more.

Council of European Rabbis is the rabbinical body which leads the RCE, members and important rabbis and Ab"d's of the continent. Meeting of the Moetzet is the place where the most burning issues of the European Jewish agenda are brought up. The Moetzet meeting is held annually in a different European capital.
