Hillula in Meron • lighting, transport and traffic arrangements



Northern District, Department of the Israel Police and the National Center Development for holy places now completed the preparations for the hillula of the Rashbi in Meron, to be held this year on Shabbos and Sunday.

These days are expected to visit the site hundreds of thousands of revelers who come to participate in the lighting of the various Hasidic sects. In recent months, unique arrangements were made in infrastructure and traffic, to secure coverage of thousands of revelers, however, with considerable emphasis on security and public order.

Police estimates that half a million will celebrate on Mount Meron.

As in previous years, celebrators will arrive by organized transportation (shuttles), from the parking lots, and will travel to the event through defined lanes as the guiding principle is the separation of pedestrian transportation to the site, this is for the purpose of safety standards and safe flow of buses along the route.
Security system, as well as network traffic, will operate a number of circuits, i.e. - from the security at Mount Meron, through security checkpoints driveways and access routes, including supervision of entering into the bus system for pedestrians.

Briefing held this morning at the Traffic Headquarters of the Israel Police, for Lag B'Omer be held in three weeks on Shabbos 18th Iyar. National Traffic Police Commander Amnon Itzkowitz said in a conversation with B'Chadrei Charedim that "the issue of safety is the main thing at this year police invests considerable effort in order to prevent injuries."

National Traffic Police Commander Amnon Itzkowitz addressed the question of the B'Chadrei Charedim reporter and explained that to avoid desecration of Shabbos, police forces will be deployed in Meron as of Friday morning, and will remain in the area during Shabbos, and will make every possible effort not to move police officers during Shabbos. He added that during Shabbos police forces will not stay in the Meron settlement.

As stated, in accordance with changes in the traffic arrangements, the mountain area will be closed to traffic on Friday 16th Iyar, from 7:00 am until the start of Shabbos. Following day, at the end of Shabbos at 18:00 axes of movement towards the mountain top (traffic circle), and will begin controlled entry of public transport.

Night of Lag B'Omer

• At 23:30 there will be the traditional lighting by Boyan Rebbe, on the roof of Zion Rashbi.
• At 1:00 will be held the lighting of the Rebbe of Karlin in the area of the Toldos Aharon behind the tomb.
• At 2:00 there will be lighting of Shuvu Banim in the Shuvu Banim area (abattoir) until 4:00.
Lag B'Omer:

• At 9:00 there will be the lighting by Chief Rabbi Amar in the dance area of Boyan.
• At 11:30 there will be the lighting of Satmar, in the area of Toldos Avraham Yitzchak and Aharon.
• At 16:00 the lighting the Rebbe of Durg will be held in the area of Shuvu Banim.
• The lighting will be held at 17:00 of the Rebbe of Rachmastrivke, in the dance area of Boyan.
• At 18:00 there will be the lighting of Toldos Avraham Yitzchak Rebbe in the area behind Toldos Aharon.
• The lighting will be held at 19:00 of the Rebbe of Machnovka in the area of Shuvu Banim until 20:30.
• At 19:00 there will be lighting of the Toldos Aharon Rebbe in the area behind Rashbi tomb.

There may be changes in the lighting schedule.

On Friday there will be the traditional Sefer Torah procession from Beit Abu in Safed, to the Rashbi site.
