Was the hometown of Avraham Avinu discovered? The newspaper Ma'ariv reported this morning (Sunday) that British researchers have uncovered a commercial center in the city of "Ur" in Iraq, which by tradition is "Ur Kasdim from which Avraham came.

The country's archaeological excavations began after the fall of Saddam Hussein and the relative stabilization of the security situation. According to estimates, the building is from the era in which the father of the nation lived and worked, with rows of rooms around a large courtyard. This is the first British excavation project in the last thirty years.

Avraham Avinu was born in Ur Kasdim in Mesopotamia, and from there left on a trip to the Promised Land – Eretz Yisrael. Aram Naharayim is identified today with the territory in the north-west Mesopotamia in Iraq.
