About 300 people, with the participation of former MK Michael Ben Ari, demonstrated tonight (Motzaei Shabbos) in front of the home of the new Finance Minister Yair Lapid in Tel Aviv, because of his intention to cut and harm the weaker strata.
The demonstrators mocked his famous status in which Lapid wrote on his Facebook page concerning "Riki Cohen from Hadera, earning 20 thousand per month." And in the Facebook page they set up for the protest, they wrote: "We will protest the cuts and the planned execution of the poor. We will rise and defend our bread, the future of our children and the right of existence of the poor in general."
"Lapid has already announced that he was going to cut benefits and raise the VAT, although there is an option to tax the top percentile, stop tax haircuts of hundreds of millions of shekels given to huge companies and restore the public's natural resources and income. Lapid and the Netanyahu government would prefer us to pay the budget deficit. In this Lapid is not different from his predecessor Steinitz, and represents the same swinish policy which benefits the rich," said the explanatory page for the demonstration.
During the demonstration, the protestors called out slogans against Lapid and the cuts, and for supporting disadvantaged population. There were no disturbances recorded.
Lapid responded recently to the anger accumulated against him: "I did not understand what the anger is about. The average wage is 9509 shekels. 20 thousand shekels gross per couple, that's about the average wage. The net which remains for Rickie and her husband is about 14 thousand if they are paying a mortgage and raising three children, then it's not easy for them either."
