Fire broke out this morning (Thursday, American time) in Flatbush in a two-story building located on 27th between Avenue J and K.
The fire broke out in a building located on the first floor of the Beis Medrash of the Hordonka Rebbe, Rabbi Ashkenazi. Miraculously, the fire broke out shortly after the last of the members of the shul left.
A neighbor who lives nearby saw fire rising from the top floor, and called the rescue and fire department. Meanwhile, the fire grew and began to spread to the first floor to the Beis Medrash. Hatzalah volunteers and fire brigade entered the burning Beis Medrash, and were able to extract three Sifrei Torah, whose coverings had already started to burn, but they had not yet been damaged, and placed them in the nearby Beis Medrash of Rabbi Steinbortzal.
Dozens of firefighters worked for a long time to control the fire, which threatened to spread to adjacent buildings. At one point, firefighters had left the building for fear of collapse, but two hours later managed to control the fire.
Unfortunately, the Beis Medrash, many holy books that had dozens of pairs of tefillin - burned to the ground.
Cause of fire has not yet known, and at this time still cannot enter the building until it has been reviewed stability.
