Last night, at around 17:00, Israel Amar, 26, was shot to death in Rehovot.

The assassin came out of a vehicle on Herzl Street in Rehovot, and fired at two men sitting on the street. One of them, Israel Amar, took five shots and was fatally wounded. The other was injured seriously. Ichud Hatzala volunteer arrived first on the scene and began resuscitation. Later the casualties were evacuated to the Kaplan hospital, where Amar died of his wounds.

Police believe that the incident was criminal, a dispute between criminal gangs. The car was found abandoned not far from the crime scene with a gun used by the killer.

An initial investigation of the central unit of the police, under the command of Commander Yigal Ben-Shalom, indicates that the victim and his friend were sitting outside a barbershop when fired on.

Many witnesses who were present on the scene said that the shooter fled and the police started subsequent scans. So far they managed to locate the gun which fired. In addition efforts are made to locate the suspect by documentation of security cameras installed along Herzel Street.

Exactly a year ago, vandals tried to kill Amar on Yavne street in Rehovot. They sprayed the car he was driving and a friend traveling with him was killed. Amar himself was moderately injured, hospitalized at Kaplan hospital, rehabilitated and released.

Micah Shalom, a volunteer of Ichud Hatzala in Rehovot, told Behadrey Haredim that the family of the deceased, who are religious and involved in community life in the city, asked him to help, because the police require an autopsy.

"The police initially was not categorically demanding dissection, and we reached an agreement that they would do a CT scan, and if there are bullets and ballistics in the body, they will make a local autopsy to remove them.

"But with the development of the investigation, police now require an autopsy. I consulted with the legal department of ZAKA, and they will be present at the hearing in court tomorrow."

Michael Gutwein, coordinator of the Legal Department of ZAKA, said to Behadrey Haredim that in light of the request of the family of the deceased, he began to operate, and tomorrow morning there will be a hearing in the Magistrates Court in Rehovot.

At the hearing he will ask the court not to grant the police to do an autopsy on the deceased, due to additional precedents in the past, even in cases of murder.
