Five charedim, operatives at the Atra Kadisha organization, were arrested this morning (Wednesday) on suspicion of trying to block excavation site in Tiberias.
The site, located at Jordan Real Estate Project which is being built for Bank Hapoalim, a group of demonstrators arrived protesting that they claim – there are Jewish graves close by, and during the work contractors may desecrate them. According to protesters, at the compound itself there are probably Jewish graves.
The protesters tried to stop the continuation of the work, and the police were called to Tiberias. As mentioned, so far five protesters affiliated with the organization's activities were arrested.
Later, activists held a demonstration against Bank Hapoalim branch located at Kikar Shabbos in Jerusalem, which carried signs against the Bank, such as: "Bank Hapoalim remove your impure claws from the Taberiyya cemetery." However, at this demonstration there were no disturbances.
An organization source says that they hope to put pressure on bank managers to build the project under the close supervision of the organization, thereby preventing the alleged desecration of graves there.
If you study the history of the organization struggles in Tiberias, to date the organizations hand has been lowered. Suffice it to mention the hotel project built by the son of the Mayor Zohar Oved, whose members refused to cooperate with the Atra Kadisha.
