At the last minute • Haredi students were invited to Obama's speech

U.S. Embassy in Israel approved at the last minute entry of 100 haredi students to Obama's speech today (Thursday).

As it turned out they were not invited to the speech, not even a symbolic representation of haredim or ultra-Orthodox academic institutions.

Therefore, chairman of the orthodox headquarters Likud, Yaakov Wieder contacted in a letter to U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Dan Shapiro, noting that "The visit is an opportunity for the president to speak directly with the public, and especially with the younger generation. Indeed, as part of this positive approach the embassy contacted the universities to send representatives of the student body - representatives of the Israeli public at large – to the President's speech in the ICC. Unfortunately, probably due to human error, the process is done while ignoring the public which totals more than one-fifth of Israel's Jewish population. The community participants who should represent the entire Israeli public will be free of Orthodox representatives."

In addition, Yonah Shub, a B'Chadrei Charedim reporter, turned to the embassy and they were quick to respond and after a series of complex adjustments resulting a tight schedule and strict security, specifically approved the entry of a hundred students from the Open University Orthodox, Haredi College, Mivchar College, Ono Academic College - Kiryat Ono and Lander Institute.

Yisrael Goren, spokesman for the Orthodox headquarters in Likud, said: "We were surprised by the response of the sources we turned to on the subject."
