Is the new finance minister interested to cancel the sale of chometz of the state tradition, held for 65 years? Every year, on Erev Pesach, the Minister of Finance arrives at the Chief Rabbis and sells the "chometz of the country" to a non-Jew. The newspaper Israel Today reports that this year for the first time, the Finance Minister Yair Lapid will be absent from the event.

Rabbinate officials believe that "probably Lapid is still afraid to be photographed with Haredim. This is an official ceremony which the finance minister should respect", but Lapid's bureau replied that his absence from the event is due to time constraints.

"The Minister of Finance has decided to engage, because the crowded schedule, only with the budget," said the Minister of Finance's office. "Anything that is not related to it is treated by his deputy MK Mickey Levy. In this case, the Deputy Finance Minister asked his party colleague Rabbi Shai Piron, Minister of Education, to fulfill his duties. "
