Brooklyn: driver who ran over and killed Gloiber couple z"l - convicted

The driver who ran over the Gloiber couple z"l – was convicted: a jury in New York accused yesterday (Wednesday) Julio Acevedo, the driver suspected of causing the deaths of the couple, Nachman and Raizi Gloiber z"l.

Julio Acevedo was driving too fast and hit a taxi which drove the couple on their way to the birth of their first child.

The district attorney's office in Brooklyn said the investigation is at its peak and there may be other charges against him. His attorney, Kathleen Golian said: "He feels terrible about what he had read, it was a mistake." The driver has a criminal past and the Brooklyn district attorney, Charles Hanes, estimated that because of this he is expected to face a prison sentence of 25 years.

The accident occurred about two weeks ago when the couple, who married last year, took a cab on Kent Avenue. At the corner of Wilson street the taxi driver, who did not stop at the stop sign, hit a BMW car driven by a woman under the influence of alcohol at 100 mph. As a result the taxi flew and crashed forcefully into a truck parked on the street.

Raizi z"l, who was seven months pregnant and went to the hospital after she felt strong contractions, flew out of the taxi, landed under the truck - and was killed instantly. Her husband, Nachman z"l, was taken in critical condition by the rescue forces to the hospital, where he died later of his wounds.

The premature baby, who was delivered by the rescue forces, was taken in critical condition to the Intensive Care Unit at the Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan, where doctors battled to save his life. A few days later, the premature baby was pronounced dead.
