Samuel Sandler: "It was the hardest year in my life"

"This was the hardest year of my life", Samuel Sandler, father of Yonatan Sandler, who was murdered together with his two children, Arye and Gavriel, and the 7 year old girl Miriam Monsonego hy"d in the deadly attack on Otzar Hatorah school in Toulouse, France, said during a memorial ceremony in Jerusalem, on the day of year.

The first yartzeit of the victims was marked on Thursday at the Gra shull in the capital. It was attended by the pained Sandler family members, with prayers and words of Hesped. Among those present was also Yonatan's widow – Eva, and his father – Samuel.

"Today is the yahrtzeit of my son and grandsons, Gavriel and Arye, who were killed in the attack in Toulouse. They are buried in Givat Shaul and we are going to daven there," said Samuel. "On the one hand, they are not here, with us, on the other hand, there are reminders and pictures in newspapers all the time".

The pained grandfather and father expressed in his words a hope for better days. "I draw hope from Eva's deeds. When I saw all she did for the children, it inspired me with hope and faith".
