Gershon Mesika: "Haredim are our natural partners"

Settlers ask haredim to separate them from "religious of Ra'anana": Gershon Mesika, the Shomron Regional Council Chairman, said that as far as they are concerned "The Haredim are our natural partners"

The bitter war of much of the media against the haredi settlers raises deep frustration among them. "Instead of attacking the chairman of the Jewish Home, Naftali Bennett, and the public he represents - the national religious sector which lives in Ra'anana, Givat Shmuel and other cities, the haredi media seeks revenge rather from settlers, who are not really able to influence the party," they say.

"Bennet's main argument is actually that the settlers mostly did not vote for his party. Much of them voted for Michael Ben Ari, others voted Likud, only a minority voted Jewish Home. This is why members of Tekuma feel helpless and are forced to toe the line, just short that Bennett will repay them the bill that he gave them four places in the party, when they didn't really 'supply the goods', say senior leaders of the settlers.

In a conversation with the Samaria Regional Council head Gershon Mesika he explains the public announcement of the heads of the Judea Samaria and Yesha Council to establish a coalition with the haredim.

"In principle I am against any rejection of a public" - says Mesika - "Certainly the Haredi public we are so close with. I speak not as a politician, but as a settler. The settlement in Judea and Samaria includes about 400 thousand citizens: one third secular, a third haredim and a third religious-national, and in the Knesset too Judea and Samaria voted for all parties. There is no reason why in the government they should not sit together. "

"The Haredim are natural partners" - said Mesika - "and I expect you will find the way to go together with them and bring them into the government. The extreme left fights against us and against the haredim simultaneously. A wise man said, that the same causes who demonstrate on Shabbos against Shabbos - protest on Sunday against the settlement.

"Equality burden is beautiful a nice slogan of a talented copywriter" – Mesika stressed - "but in reality, in the past few years there is advancement in the process of recruiting haredim to the IDF – out of dialogue. Actually including the haredim and agreements, is what will lead to progress, not an attack against the haredim".
