This morning (Monday) at the Beth Israel hospital in Manhattan the premature baby born yesterday after the shocking accident in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, passed away. This raised the death toll in the accident to three, when all family members were killed in an accident.
On Motzei Shabbos, at 0:30 am (IST New York), a fatal car accident occured, which killed the couple Nathan (Nussie) and Raizy Glauber z"l, both aged 21, while on their way to the hospital, Bellevue in Manhattan, to give birth to their first child.
The accident occurred while the couple, who married last year, was being driven in a cab on Kent Avenue. At the corner of Wilson the taxi driver, who didn’t stop at the stop sign, hit a BMW car driven by a woman under the influence of alcohol at 100 mph. As a result the car flew and crashed into a truck parked on the street.
Raizy z"l who was seven months pregnant and went to the hospital after feeling strong contractions, was thrown out of the cab, fell under the truck, and was killed instantly. Her husband, Nathan z"l was evacuated in critical condition by rescue forces to a hospital, where he died later from his wounds.
The premature baby, who was delivered by rescue forces, was evacuated in critical condition to the Intensive Care Unit Hospital Beth Israel in Manhattan, where doctors battled to save his life.
The taxi driver was slightly injured. The offending vehicle was located without the driver.
Yesterday the couple's funeral was held at the Satmar Beis Midrash on Rodney Street in Williamsburg on the way to the Satmar Beis Midrash in Monsey, and from there to the cemetery in Kiryat Yoel of Satmar.
"This is a harsh and appalling site. I never encountered a similar shocking case", said a Hatzalah medic in Williamsburg, who was the first to arrive at the scene of the accident.Credit - Arya Rabinovits
