Hezbollah activist Hossam Taleb Yakob, 24 year-old Lebanese who also holds a Swedish passport, admitted at his trial in Cyprus that he was sent to monitor Israeli targets in Europe.
He admitted that his handlers told him to find kosher restaurants in Limassol, Cyprus, and sent by Hezbollah to Antalya, Amsterdam and Lyon, regions that also have Israeli and Jewish presence.
The New York Times reported on the latest updates from the trial, stated that Yakob described he was driven in a van to meet his handler, whom he knew only as Ayman - and how he used code language to confirm his identity. "I never saw the face of Ayman, he was always covered."
"In the Netherlands I took a mobile and SIM cards rolled in a newspaper, but I did not know what it is. In France I collected a few bags," he testified. All those were transferred to Lebanon.
He was arrested on July 7 last year, and reportedly the Mossad was involved in the arrest. His notebook registered number plates of buses carrying Israeli's in Cyprus.
He claimed that he wrote one of them - LAA-505 - that reminded him of the Lamborghini sports car, while the other - KWK-633 - reminded him of a Kawasaki Motorcycle. Two weeks after his arrest the attack in Burgas occurred, then five Israelis were murdered as they went on a bus at the airport in Bulgaria. Bulgaria confirmed this month that Hezbollah was behind this terrorist attack.
Yakob, who aside from his Lebanese passport also has a Swedish passport, said he was a member of Hezbollah since 2008, and has worked with the organization for four years. He visited Cyprus in 2008 and arrived at the neighboring island for the first time for "business purposes" in December 2011.
On June 26, 2012 he came to Sweden to renew his passport and returned to Cyprus through London's Heathrow airport.
Ayman asked him to give him the exact location of restaurants serving kosher food, but Yakob claimed he did not find such restaurants in Limassol.
