Baruch Dayan Haemes: In Miami, Florida, passed away this morning (Monday) Cantor Moshe Yaakov Schulhof z"l, one of the greatest cantors in the last generation, when he was about 64 at his death.
Eight years ago he had a malignant disease for the first time, from which he recovered, but two years ago it attacked him again. His cantorial associates prayed for him and added the name Chaim Moshe Yaakov ben Sarah, but illness overcame him and he died this morning.
Cantor Moshe Schulhof z"l had a soft and heartfelt tenor voice, which was the key to the heart of all the listeners.
He was a gentle soul, which stood out in his singing, which was always with sweet lips and an elevated heart. He was one of the individual cantors who were not swept up by the current 'new', while he prayed as Chazan of time. Even a few months ago, suffering from illness, he still appeared and prayed.
His colleague cantor Dov Heller told B'Chadrei Charedim: "He was a really good friend of all cantors, even when I was young cantor, the he was fifth in the cantorial world, he guided me in the beginning and advised me a lot, I remember how much I enjoyed his caring."
"In his chazanus one could see he was connected to every audience - if it's Jerusalem Day or even Independence Day. It is undoubtedly a great loss to the world of cantors."
He is survived by his wife Ruchama, three daughters and a son.
