Lithuanian public rift: Jerusalem District Court convicted today (Monday) Chaim Perlstein, a Ponovicz yeshiva student who attacked Nati Grossman, Hapeles editor for offense of aggravated assault.

Perlstein admitted an amended indictment after his attorney, Yair Golan, has reached an agreement with the prosecution to appeal it to 10 months in prison and he petitions the penalty of community service. Subject of a suspended sentence and compensation Grossman will be the discretion of the court.

Under the Arrangement prosecution announced that it has withdrawn its claims that the suspect attacked Grossman as planned, regardless of what he or conspiracy. She said the design was "to act against the complainant by intimidation" only.

Arrangement has not been approved by the court which is not bound by it. And the sentencing hearing was scheduled in three months.

According to the indictment filed against Perlstein, the complainant Nati Grossman served as the newspaper editor of Yated Ne'eman for 25 years until he was fired about 6 months ago. About a month after his dismissal, the complainant founded with other people a competing new paper called Hapeles, and the complainant was appointed chief editor of the newspaper. As a result, there is an ongoing conflict between the different factions among Lithuanian newspapers affiliated with competitors.

On Friday of the month of Tevet around 1:00, the complainant went to the staircase to his house in Bayit Vegan in Jerusalem. The defendant was waiting there, contacted the complainant and asked where the Paksher family lives. After the plaintiff told the defendant that this family does not live in the building and headed toward the elevator, the defendant called another man who was waiting there and was masked. When the complainant saw the masked man, he tried to escape, but the masked man began to attack him and hit him in the head with an object whose identity is unknown.

The complainant, who began to bleed from his head, tried to protect his head with his left hand, but the masked man continued to beat him. The complainant tried to scream for help and run to the elevator, but tripped. At this moment, the complainant's neighbor heard moaning outside the home. The neighbor who opened his door and noticed what was happening, approached the defendant and masked man and held them. They pushed him and began to flee.

As a result of these acts they caused the complainant cuts in his head and broke his left hand finger.
