At the cabinet meeting this morning (Sunday), Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu referred to the election results in Iran, with the election of the new president, Hassan Rouhani.

In contrast to the illusions scattered over the last day, as if it were a change and reformist leader, Netanyahu stressed that nothing has changed, and that Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, is the real ruler.

"In relation to the results of the elections in Iran, we do not delude ourselves. The international community should not be caught with wishful thinking, be tempted to relax the pressure on Iran to stop its nuclear program," Netanyahu stressed. "You have to remember that the ruler of Iran ruled out candidates who did not fit his extremist views, and out of those whose candidacy was allowed - the candidate who was perceived less identified with the regime was chosen, and this is still one who calls the State of Israel 'the great Zionist devil'.

"In any case, the ruler of Iran, known as the Supreme Leader and the President is the one who determines the nuclear policy. The more the pressure on Iran will increase, the more likely it is to stop the Iranian nuclear program, which remained the biggest threat to world peace.

"Fifteen years ago the election of another president who was considered by the West as moderate, did not result in a change in this aggressive policy. In the past twenty years the only thing that brought a temporary freeze of Iran's nuclear program, was Iran's fear of strong action against it in 2003. Iran will be judged by its actions. If it continues to insist to develop its nuclear program, the answer should be obvious - stopping the nuclear program in any way."
