David Flores, 36, a resident of Pennsylvania, is facing a sentence of up to 100 years in prison if convicted of attempted murder of four members of Shomrim in Borough Park, Brooklyn.

The shooting took place in September 2010. Orthodox residents in the neighborhood complained to the Shomrim that Flores comes to the neighborhood in his car, parks and follows minors.

Members of the Shomrim decided to catch him in the act. Instead riots broke out between the parties, and at one point Flores drew his weapon and fired at them, wounding the four at different levels of injury, later he shot his arm and the police came and arrested him. He bled and claimed that he was attacked.

The man has a criminal history and has served a prison sentence for attempted murder and was put on trial.

"They did not have an option to wait for the police to arrive," explained the prosecutor this week. "He had a loaded weapon. He could do anything to avoid arrest publicly, which would cause him embarrassment in the local media."

Flores's lawyer argued that he carried out the shooting only after the members of the organization surrounded the car, beat on the windows, dragged him to another street and beat him brutally." The lawyer added: "Until the shooting there was no call to the police."

However it was not explained how he carried a gun without a license and why.

If Flores will be convicted in court, he may be sentenced to 100 years in prison.
