Haredi IDF integration difficulties? Nahal Haredi battalion soldier will stand today (Tuesday) on trial in a military base after a master sergeant ordered him to remove the yarmulke which he wore against regulations, but he was not ready to fulfill the order, reported Walla site.

The soldier, serving as an assistant in the Nezach Yehuda regiment, served at the training base of the Kfir Brigade in the Jordan Valley and wore an embroidered skullcap caption "Long live the king of the messiah ", as is customary amongst the Messianic.

Last week the base sergeant approached him and ordered him to remove the cap, because in the IDF one should not wear a yarmulke with a caption. The soldier explained to the Master Sergeant that he wears the yarmulke as is ordered by rabbis as part of his faith and his friends from the same stream.

The Sergeant did not accept the claim and explained to the soldier that the yarmulke does not meet the standard of military command. He made it clear that if they did not remove it and replace it without a yarmulke with a inscription – he will stand for trial.

After the soldier refused to obey the order, sergeant informed him yesterday on the trial. The medic called rabbis for advice and they turned to the battalion commanders to make allowances for the soldier, but to no avail.

"This is the story of Master Sergeant who exaggerated in maintaining rigid command language without running all judgment," said Eliyahu Lax, Chairman of the FIDF for religious soldiers. "They must consider the soldier and his faith. If the yarmulke said "my Golani" would they also ask him to remove it?"

The IDF spokesman said to Walla, that according to the command one must not wear yarmulkes with an inscription.
