At about 1:30 am, shots were fired from Syria at an IDF force patrolling the area in central Tel Fares Golan Heights. There were no injuries, but the military jeep was damaged.
The IDF responded by launching two Tammuz missiles at the source of fire.
News agency, SANA, the official in Damascus, published a report that the Syrian army attacked and destroyed tonight an IDF armored vehicle in the Golan Heights. Reports quoted the commander of the Syrian army who claims that the IDF vehicle crossed the line demilitarized zone between the countries and advanced towards the village of Bir Ajami.
IDF sources said to B'Chadrei Charedim that claim of entry of APC in the demilitarized zone are false.
IDF officials estimated that taking responsibility for the attack is part of a new action policy of the Assad regime, announced in April following the air strikes that now opens the Golan resistance front against Israel.
Syria's announcement is the first time that the Assad regime accepts responsibility for firing at the border, after more than 10 incidents last year. The third incident was the beginning of the week. Yesterday fire opened at an IDF force near Tel Chazka and during Shavuot, mortar shells were fired at Hermon, and on Motzei Shabbos the Syrian area fired at IDF forces. In all cases there were no injuries.
Israel has not formally intervened in the conflict inside Syria, but President Bashar Assad accused Israel of collaborating with the rebels. "Israel directly supports terrorist group in two ways. Firstly, it gives them logistical support, plus she explains to them what sites should attack and how to perform the same attacks."
According to foreign reports, Israel carried out two attacks in recent weeks in Syria, bombing of missiles delivery to Hezbollah and military research center in Damascus. The British newspaper The Sunday Times reported that in response Assad directed missiles, to Tel Aviv.
Artillery soldiers fired Tammuz missiles accurately, at the source of the fire last night. Identified precisely and hit the target. IDF stressed that the military response in case of fire at the border is examined individually, and the assessment of the situation.
This morning, Chief of Staff Benny Gantz toured with Northern Command Yair Golan at the border. At a conference held later in Zichron Yaakov Gantz said: "We live in a reality that what characterizes it is explosiveness and sensitivity."
