Finance Minister Yair Lapid is busy these days in Israel's internal affairs, budgets and cuts, but in an interview with American newspaper, the New York Times, he actually lays out his political philosophy. According to him, the distance between him and his coalition partner Naftali Bennett is not large, if it exists at all. Lapid doesn't believe Jerusalem should be divided, will not stop the natural growth in the settlements, but believes that in the future there will be displacement of tens of thousands of Jewish settlements, which are far. "It would be heartbreaking," he said.
Regarding the building policy in settlements he made it clear that he will not stop the "natural growth" and will not reduce financial incentives to settlers.
Even in the context of Jerusalem, Lapid expressed opinions of Center - Right: "We did not come here for nothing," he explained why the capital of Israel will not be divided and become the capital of the Palestinian state. "Jerusalem is not just a place, Jerusalem is an idea, Jerusalem is the capital of Israel."
Lapid admitted during the interview that he plans to inherit the prime minister Netanyahu in the future, but he is "in no hurry" as he puts it.
