Marijuana lab discovered in haredi school in Kiryat Gat

A lab for growing marijuana was discovered at a girls' school in Kiryat Gat. The police made it clear that students and the management did not know anything about it.

Investigators estimate that laboratory activities were specifically set at a religious school, thinking that no one will conduct a search on the site.

The lab was discovered when recently students noticed a strange smell which came from the emergency openings of the shelter. The caretaker was called, and was surprised to find dozens of seedlings. Officers who arrived determined that these are marijuana seedlings grown under laboratory conditions to breed them selectively. In addition, fertilizers for the plants, monitoring tables and tools for smoking marijuana were found.

An air conditioner stolen from the school was used for cooling the lab.

Commander of Kiryat Gat police station Superintendent Ofer Shomer addressed the issue and noted: "With the exposure of laboratory, forensic specialists collected an assembly of forensic evidence. We believe that the laboratory is in place for several months. We will do whatever we can through covert and overt operations to reach the suspects, who are involved in setting up the lab."
