Because of the ultra-Orthodox and the Arabs • Israel in the first place of poverty

Israel has stabilized today (Wednesday) in the first and dubious place of poverty in developed countries (OECD).

According to a new report published by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Consortium in 34 countries.

The report's authors note that in 1995 the poverty rate was 13.8% in Israel. Conclusion is that an increase in the rate of poverty Israel stands at the top of developed countries.

According to the data, one in five Israelis is poor and one in three Israeli children live in poverty.

Previous report, published last year, Israel, was second in the discredited table and Mexico ahead of her.

The new report places Israel in first place with a poverty rate of 20.9% compared with 20.4% in Mexico and 19% in Turkey.

The poverty rate is defined - by the organization as a percentage of payrolls smaller than half the average income in the state. According to the report, a significant increase in the poverty rate was recorded in Turkey, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden and Germany.

The new report shows that between 2007 and 2010, child poverty grew in Israel until the age of 17 by 2%. This is an increase in fourth-highest among OECD countries. Among young people aged 25-18 is increased by close to 2 %. In contrast, among those aged 65 and above poverty rate fell by 1%.

According to economists, the source of poverty and the growth is associated with non - participation of Haredi men and Arab women in the labor market. Reducing child allowances and other social services cuts may worsen the poverty in Israel.

Deri: cancel the decrees

Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri responded to the report and wrote: "this serious data were published before the examination of the implementation of the new decrees, which certainly will put tens of thousands of new children and the elderly into poverty and worsen the situation of hundreds of thousands more who are there.

"I call on the Prime Minister, in light of new data, to reopen the debate on budget in the government and to immediately cancel the harsh decrees before it is too late. Biennial budget is going to spell disaster for large segments of the population.

"In the choice between being in first place of hungry children and being a country that its deficit is bigger, I definitely prefer the latter.

"The deficit target must be increased to stop this disgrace and the sooner the better."
