On Erev Yomtov, when the last 'olim laregel' came to Jerusalem with their vehicles, a vehicle went up on fire on Route 1, with the result that Highway 1 towards Jerusalem next to Abu – Gosh was blocked.

Even the car convoy of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was stuck in a jam.

Heavy traffic congestion was felt from the Shoresh interchange to the Hemed interchange.

Among the drivers of vehicles, there were also quite a few religious and haredi, who feared they would not make in on time to Jerusalem, and abandoned their vehicle and left on foot toward the capital city.

By the instruction of the head of the Traffic Division Commander Bruno Stein, and part of what was defined as "providing assistance and service to the public," Traffic Department policemen escorted the pedestrians to Jerusalem.

Police said that there were about 30 men, women and children. The four abandoned cars were dragged meanwhile to a plot on Harel Interchange, where passengers will be able to get them back.
